Rivian R2

Rivian unveiled their latest electric vehicle, the R2. This SUV offers a more budget-friendly option compared to their R1T trucks and R1S SUVs. The company anticipates that the R2 will attract a wider audience.

The R2 is anticipated to debut in the first half of 2026, boasting a range of over 300 miles, a quick acceleration time of 3 seconds from 0-60mph, and an initial cost of $45,000 USD.

The Rivian R2 will be available in single, dual, and tri-motor versions, each with Tesla's NACS port integrated into the vehicle. Notably, the charge ports will be located at the rear of the car, a departure from the R1T and R1S's positioning at the front.

Rivian R3 and R3X Electric SUVs

According to Rivian founder and CEO RJ Scaringe, the R3X is a performance version of the shorter and more sporty electric SUV, the Rivian R3. It takes the platform of its predecessor, the R2, and reduces it in size.

The R3 and R3X both feature angled rear designs, unlike the more angular R2. Similar to its predecessor, it will offer two battery options, each boasting a range of over 300 miles and a rapid zero to 60mph acceleration of three seconds.

According to the company, both the R3 and R3X are set to be released shortly after the R2 in order to facilitate a seamless launch and swift increase in production of the R2.

Additionally, the vehicles will eventually be accessible in international markets following their initial launch in North America; however, no specific timeline has been disclosed at this time.

Similar to its counterpart, the R2, the new R3 and R3X models from Rivian will also come equipped with the company's latest 4695 cylindrical battery cells. Standing at 15 mm taller than Tesla's 4680 cells, these cells will provide increased power and efficiency. Additionally, like Tesla, Rivian has integrated a native version of NACS charging port directly into the vehicle for convenient charging options. According to Rivian, the R3 can go from 10 to 80 percent charged in just half an hour with DC fast charging capabilities.
